Knights of Columbus Council 10009

Making the world a better place

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's service organization with over 1.6 million members around the world. St. Ann's council 10009 is a dynamic council of about 130 members. We engage in a number of activities in service to our Church, our community and our world.

Council 10009 was chartered in March, 1989. Since then we have developed a reputation for being one of the most reliable, enthusiastic and conscientious service organizations in the area.

The Grand Knight for July 2009 - June 2011 is Julian D'Angela. The Grand Knight is responsible for the welfare of the council. He presides over council meetings, acts as ex-officio member of all committees, appoints a membership and program director, convenes officers for a monthly meeting, and ensures all necessary reports are submitted to the state and Supreme Council. He also monitors the council’s financial status.

The Deputy Grand Knight for July 2009 - June 2011 is John DiLiberto. The deputy grand knight is second in command. He assists the grand knight with council affairs and fulfills all duties assigned to him by the grand knight. He takes the place of the Grand Knight should he be absent.

Events

Our primary fund-raising event, Lobsterfest, is the biggest annual event in Ancaster - 1800 tickets sold and almost 200 volunteers. In 2008 it raised over $45,000.

We have two other regular major events. Each year we co-sponsor the Tastes of Ancaster night as part of the Heritage Days festival. Also, we organize a golf tournament open to the general public - this year it was held on Saturday August 26th at Chippewa Creek Golf Club. Finally, our newest annual event is Oktoberfest Traditions, to be held this year on Saturday October 17th. Tickets are on sale beginning Saturday September 19 at Rastins Pharmacy.

The funds raised at these events are disbursed to charities, community organizations, missionaries and church organizations with very low overhead.

Major Projects

In 2005 we pledged to support the entire cost of furnishing the chapel in the newly constructed Bishop Tonnos High School in Ancaster. This is a sizable and ongoing commitment.

We help staff the Out of the Cold Program in Hamilton, and support many of the major charitable organizations in Hamilton such as the Good Shepherd, Catholic Children's Aid Society, and Martha House. Each year we sponsor local youth sports teams and help defray the travel costs for young adults travelling to the Dominican Republic to build housing and facilities for the poor.

Our calendar is full of activities throughout the year. Membership in the Knights is rewarding and fun. If you are a Catholic gentleman of age at least 18 years, please consider joining. Together we can make the world a better place.
