The Ancaster Knights of Columbus Lobsterfest is Ancaster's largest annual indoor charity event, selling out with about 1800 guests each year. This extremely well organized event requires months of planning and culminates with over 150 volunteers on hand to make the evening outstanding.
Lobsterfest combines delicious food, wonderful music and dancing, great atmosphere and loads of fun. About 4000 lobsters are brought in fresh from the east coast and cooked in 10 large pots over wood fires on site. Juicy 14 ounce steaks are cooked at two stations on a number of large barbecues. The food is whisked to the serving lines by an army of volunteers. Inside the arena, the rooms buzz with excitement as the the patrons await their delicious meals.
Over the years, some patrons coming in large groups have decorated their tables in elaborate themes. Each year the best table is awarded a prize: A donation of $500 to a charity of their choice and bragging rights for a year. The table decorations are completely optional but you'll enjoy viewing the tables from the groups who take on the challenge. A fun conclusion to the table decorating occurs when the bagpiper winds through the crowd, leading the procession to present the winning award. The presentation will be made by this year's organizing committee chair, Paul Gibel.
The Knights of Columbus organize this event each year to support a number of charitable causes. Over 50 local charitable and service organizations benefit from the nearly $50 000 raised annually from the Ancaster Knights of Columbus events. The Knights are old hands at making the fun happen.
